HYPERSPACE 2025
Each spring at RIT we have Hyperspace projects. A collaborative project between the grade levels within the interior design major. Its typically a competition of a sort and whichever team gets picked gets their project concept to to actually be built. It's a week long project that ends with a poster and a presentation.
This year’s Hyperspace charrette competition was brought to RIT by the Webster Montessouri school. They were looking for a redesign of their cafe and lobby and a design for their brand new library. While the existing white walls and wood floors had to remain intact, we were given creative freedom to design everything else in a child-friendly manner.
As the junior and team leader, I guided my group in creating a space that was both safe and captivating for students. We drew inspiration from storybook aesthetics, looking to classic tales like Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh. The café and kitchen evoke a garden-like atmosphere, while the library is designed to feel like an animal den, fostering a sense of wonder and comfort for young learners. I contributed to the rendering of the cafe and material selection in terms of submittals but helped guide everyone along the way as well.
